This Echinocereus originates from a small area of distribution, Brewster County, Texas, USA.
It is a small, cylindrical cactus known for its attractive yellow flowers.
Its stems are solitary or form small, loose clusters of a few heads.
The stems are globular to short-cylindrical and typically reach a height of only 1 to 3 cm and a diameter of 1.5 to 2.5 cm. They are usually connected underground with a large taproot.
The flowers are the most striking feature and appear in spring to early summer. They are large relative to the plant, funnel-shaped, and bright yellow, sometimes with a slight green or orange tinge in the center. They open during the day and are often larger than the cactus body itself (up to 4-5 cm in diameter).
