Plants of the genus Notocactus have since been reclassified as Parodia. This plant is now botanically correctly called Parodia mueller-melchersii. Parodia mueller-melchersii is widespread in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul and Uruguay.
The flowers are light yellow, reaching a diameter of 50 mm, with pink petal tips. The throat of the flower is a richer yellow, and the style is red.
